Gleam Music Stand
A portable music stand is a “must have” accessory for every musician. As a trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn player, a good quality music stand promotes good posture when playing and practicing. These are not just for professional musicians. When I first started, I used to prop my music up where ever I could and practiced that way. I developed some bad habits because of this. I would slouch and point my bell down towards the floor so I could see the music. So I wasn’t breathing as fully as I should. I also let my lower jaw go backwards too much so that the bell would point down. Not good.
Please note this is not a sponsored review. Gleam did not give me their stand nor do we get any compensation for this review from them. We purchased this music stand from Amazon like anyone can.
Gleam Music Stand-What’s in the box?
This stand comes complete with everything you need. The stand folds up nicely and fits well in the carrying bag. It’s just a stand right? Just like the traditional music ones in the band room? Well, yes and no. Yes, it’s a music stand. No, it’s not like the heavy ones in the band room.

Gleam Music Stand Features
- Lightweight. The stand is designed to be portable. The stand itself collapses and the legs fold up. The music holder itself isn’t as thick of metal as the stands in the bandroom.
- Height Adjustment. The stand adjustable heights of 35″ to a maximum height of 55″ (88.9 cm to 139.7 cm). The music holder is also adjustable.
- Music holder. Usually a portable stand is used when you go somewhere to perform when not used for practice. That could mean an outdoor performance. The stand has 2 spring loaded arms that hold your music in place. It also comes with one plastic clip to hold the top of your music. We’ve found this combination works well, but at times, I used 2 clips. One for the top of the page on the left and one for the right.
- Phone holder. A spring loaded phone holder that mounts to the pole of the stand is a life saver. It’s great to help keep time, to listen to backing tracks when practicing, and even to video yourself playing to see what you are doing.
- It comes with a plastic binder with clear music holders inside. Makes it easy to keep your music from blowing away when they are inside this folder.
- A carrying bag with a strap. It’s lightweight but can’t carry a lot of music with the stand.
Gleam Music Stand Pros and Cons
Pros
- Light weight. Yes, it’s light and easy to carry around with you. Stores easily at home. But I’ve found if I keep it out, with my method books and band music open, it reminds me to practice. This reminder helps me. You may not need any motivation to practice, but at times I sure do.
- Well built. It’s solid and the craftsmanship is nice. It feels like a quality piece of gear and should last a good long time.
- Holds music in place. The included music holders do work well. As mentioned above, I usually have 2 or more clips with me at all times, so getting a few more is needed.
- Can support up to 10 pounds and up to 2″ (5.1 cm) thick music books. It holds my Arbans method book easily so that’s a plus. That’s a lot of music scores. The Amazon listing shows you can put a projector on it. Haven’t pushed the limit of how much weight it’ll hold, but it seems like it’ll hold a lot of weight.
- Has rubber feet which helps it from sliding around and getting blown sideways from the wind.
Cons
- Strong wind can be a problem. Because it’s light, a strong wind can blow it over. It’s happend to me. I wasn’t alone though, almost the entire band had their music blow over and many had their music sheets fly into the audience. One tip is to hang your gig bag or lean your case on the stand to help hold it in place against the wind.
- Bag may not last. It’s a good bag, but to be lightweight, the material is on the thinner side and the straps are thin too. It’ll work well to carry the stand but I would love to carry all my music with it as well.
- Sheet music folder doesn’t let you add more plastic sheet holders. It’s not a 3 ring binder. The sheets are not removable either.
- No product manual. It’s pretty simple and easy to figure out how to use the stand. Not having any instructions may not be a problem for most, but could be for those new to using a stand like this.
- Stand tubes slide all the way out. That is so you can mount the phone holder. But I have found the tubes fall out if I try to assemble it upside down. Not a big deal at all, but something to be aware of.
- No pencil or pen holder. Again, not a fault of this stand, just a feature I’d love to have. I use an extra clip to hold a pencil so I can make notes on the music when needed.
- Phone holder can’t hold a tablet. I use an iPad to carry most of my music so It would be nice to have some kind of tablet mount. This is not really a con of this stand. Just something I’d love to figure out. How to use both sheet music and my iPad together on the same stand.
Gleam Music Stand Parts
The stand itself is easy to put together. There are really 2 main parts, the stand with the legs and the music holder.

Here’s a closer look at the phone holder. It’s spring loaded, just slide the right side outward. To mount it, you have to slide the top pole out of the stand itself. Open the clamp, slip it on, and close it tight. It let’s you adjust the angle of your phone too.

Here’s a close up of the clip. It has a cm ruler on it so I know it’s about 15 cm wide. It’s made of a decent grade of plastic. I’ve purchased a few more from Amazon. Can never have too many of these things.

The sheet music folder is made of plastic and has quite a few plastic sheet music holders.

Gleam Music Stand Review Summary
Overall, it’s a very good stand. The features and the extras included in the box are worthwhile. Not a fan of the binder since it doesn’t allow one to add more plastic sheet holders.
The stand is sturdy. It’s constructed well. It should last a long time The case is okay. I have personally used it at home for practice over the past several months and it works well. I’ve used it for several performances and rehearsals and it did the job. The stand did blow over during a strong wind, but so did most every other stand. Putting something heavy to brace it against the wind works pretty well. Overall, am happy with the stand for the money.
